Inspired by the World of Disney and Pixar's “A Bug's Life,” the new Disney+ Original Series from National Geographic, A REAL BUG’S LIFE, is an incredible adventure into nine different micro bug worlds around the globe, where the forces of nature play out on a miniature scale and where tiny creatures rely on amazing powers and extraordinary alliances to make it through each day.

This is a beautiful series from National Geographic exploring the intricate world of bugs and insects. It’s inspired by the 1998 Pixar film A Bug’s Life, which I remember watching extremely fondly.
One of the episodes I worked on is called ‘The Busy Farm’, produced by the very splendid Nathan Small. I grew a small wildflower meadow from seed and set it up in my studio to capture a range of growing and flowering meadow sequences. Almost certainly one of the more ambitious and lengthy projects I’ve undertaken, and I’m absolutely thrilled that my shots made it into the final piece.
I was also tasked with capturing day to night and night to day timelapses on location at the farm. Three days of walking continuously between various motion control setups, gradually adjusting exposures to carry each sequence smoothly through the transition.
I also worked on the pond episode for the equally brilliant James Manisty, capturing various pond plants growing and flowering. It was my first time working with pond plants, and I found it particularly tricky, with a whole new set of challenges compared to working in soil.
A big thank you to Plimsoll Productions for the opportunity.
